FARMINGVIILLE, NY (Jan. 16, 2019) — Frederick C. Braun III, chairman of the Brookhaven Industrial Development Agency (IDA), announced that the agency has closed on a package of economic incentives for United Meat Products of Glen Cove to assist in its $5 million purchase of a Bellport industrial building that will be used to expand its food production business.
The incentive package for United Meat, approved last month, closed on Jan. 10.
United Meat, which describes itself as fast growing with a need to expand, plans to use the 33,500-squarefoot facility to manufacture meat sausages, ham, roast duck, cooked beef, meat sauce and other food ingredients to be sold to Asian markets and restaurants under the Northern Foods label. United Meat currently operates facilities totaling 70,000 square feet in Westbury and a mushroom farm in Moriches and also considered a site in southern New Jersey as an alternative to the building at 50 Sawgrass Drive. United said the Bellport site is close to its mushroom farm and Westbury warehouse.
United Meat plans to begin renovations to the building later this year. The site previously housed TA Morris, a frozen foods distributor that put the building up for sale earlier this year. United said it intends to employ up to seven full-time workers and five part-timers within two years, including employees of TA Morris.
“We’re always pleased to provide incentives to a business that intends to bring new manufacturing and employment to the town,” said Braun.
